The Board

Mark Luntley, Chair

Mark graduated from Loughborough University in 1982 and qualified as a CIPFA accountant in 1987. He has worked at the Audit Commission, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (as Head of Audit), the Western Isles Council (as Deputy Director) and at Oxford City Council as its Director of Finance and Corporate Services. Mark is currently Finance Programme Director at the Local Government Association.

Mark was part of the group that worked to establish the Credit Union and has been on its board since the credit union’s creation in 2005.

Mark ensures the board focuses on key issues and that all board members have a real say in how their credit union is run.

Mark explains:

“I’m passionate about the Oxford Credit union because it’s a practical way of putting all Oxfordshire residents in control of their own money. Instead of borrowing at unfairly high interest rates, individuals can both save and borrow at fair rates.

Our credit union is local. Money saved stays within the community and the board is made up of people who have funds in the credit union. This is a real example of grassroots democracy.”

Mark also chairs the Westmill Windfarm in Oxfordshire and is a non-Executive Director of South Oxford Housing Association. He is a member of the Centre for Alternative Technology, Midcounties Cooperative and the Climate Outreach Information Network.

Sue Tanner
Sue has lived in Oxford for nearly 30 years and for most of that time worked for Oxfordshire County Council, in the Human Resources section of the Children’s Directorate.  She retired in 2007.  In 1989 she helped to found the Rose Hill & Donnington Advice Centre, and has been actively involved with it ever since, first on the Management Committee and now as a Trustee and volunteer.  She also convenes the Oxford Advice Centres’ Forum, which brings together all the advice agencies in the city.
She says “It was through my work with the advice sector that I realised the importance of the Credit Union and I hope I can help the CU to work ever more effectively with advice agencies in Oxford and beyond.”
